Filling a leaking air-conditioning system with refrigerant is not permitted. The leak must be eliminated first. A pressureless refrigeration or air-conditioning system (without refrigerant) must be pressurized with e.g. nitrogen or forming gas before filling. Depending on the manufacturer, the pressure drop is between 5-30 bar. The pressure drop is checked on the pressure gauge. Pressurization with forming gas is carried out in the same way as with nitrogen. However, it should be noted that hydrogen (H2) is flammable. It is therefore essential to use only forming gas with 95% nitrogen (N2) and 5% hydrogen (H2).
